The Commons Campgrounds
Located in Salem, Missouri on Hwy 72 (toward the Salem Memorial District Hospital)

The Commons property is located in Salem, Missouri, The Gateway to the Ozarks. The Current River and Montauk State Park are located less than 25 miles away. Other attractions nearby include the Shawnee Mac Lakes, Mark Twain National Forest, and the Indian Trail Conservation Area. Local festivities include craft sales, the Bonebrake Nature Center, and seasonal activities such as rodeos and the Fall and Spring Festivals.

All sites are on a first-come, first-serve basis, except those that are being reserved. Reservations must be made 2 weeks in advance, but no more than 12 months in advance. During major holidays and major events at The Commons, reservations must be made for a minimum of three days. All reservations are firm. Camping is limited to 15 days in any 30 consecutive-day period.

A camper may hold one site for another camper expected to arrive later that day. To do so, the extra site must be set up, the fee paid, and the permit posted.

Facilities

Restrooms, showers and a hand pump for water are located on the fenced in premises. Groceries, supplies and gas are nearby. One handicapped campsite is available. Please notify us if special accommodations are needed.

Reservations

The deposit fee for reserved spaces includes only the first night of camping. No credit cards are accepted. Please do not send cash. Checks should be made payable to The Commons Campgrounds and mailed with a self-addressed envelope. After we receive the deposit, a confirmation will be mailed. Mail to PO Box 1271, Salem, MO 65560. Cancellations

For reservations canceled 2 days before the reservation date, a 50% refund is available. No refunds if canceled less than 2 days before the reservation date. No refunds for no-shows.

Check-in / Check-out

Check-in time is 11 a.m. When checking in, register with the caretaker. Late arrivals are available and must check-in the following morning. Check-out time is 11 a.m. or you will be charged for another day. Entrance is off of Dent County Road 230.

Park Regulations

  • Maximum number of adults per site is six.
  • A campsite may contain 1 to 3 vehicles depending on the site.
  • Sites may not be left unattended for more than 24 hour periods.
  • Tents may be placed in designated areas only. No trenching is allowed.
  • Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Only one electrical user is allowed per site.
  • Visitors must leave by 10 p.m.
  • Visitors must park in designated areas.
  • Use of firearms, bows, BB Guns, Pellet Guns, fireworks, ATV’s or loud bikes are not allowed.
  • No electronic insect killing devices or generators are allowed.
  • Foraging for firewood is prohibited. Firewood will be available for sale. Ask the caretaker.
  • Disorderly conduct, vulgar language, intoxication, or use of illegally controlled substances will not be tolerated.
  • Pets that pose no danger to other campers are welcome on leashes, but cannot be tied to trees.
  • Please respect the rights of others. If you cannot then you will be asked to leave.
  • Campers are fully responsible for the conduct of their family members/guests in the campground facilities and are responsible for any destruction of campground facilities by family members/guests.
  • Campers are responsible for knowing and following all of The Commons Campgrounds regulations.
  • The Dent County Fall Festival Association/The Commons Project Committee are not responsible for property loss or damage.
  • The caretakers reserve the right to evict any individuals not abiding the Park Regulations of The Commons Campgrounds.
